Torianne Hommer was born and raised just outside Washington, DC (yes, the DMV), where she first fell in love with performing. But it wasn’t until visiting New York City for college auditions that she felt a new pulse and knew she had found home. She is is now a NYC local hire.

She was blessed with admission into NYU Steinhardt’s Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a concentration in Musical Theatre. Alongside her music degree, Torianne pursued a Dance Minor through Tisch School of the Arts, training in Ballet, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Hip-Hop, Dance of the African Diaspora, Latin Fusion, and even Egyptian Belly Dance (because she truly loves learning new ways to move). She was also accepted into Stella Adler’s prestigious Enhanced Acting Program, where she trained alongside actors from around the world. The combined training from Steinhardt, Tisch, and Stella Adler has shaped her into a versatile and deeply collaborative artist.

Over the past four years, Torianne has been discovering her voice - and her comedy.

After performing in a ballet comedy, the head of the dance program compared her physicality to the great Lucille Ball. That spark ignited something. She went on to produce and perform two shows at The Green Room 42: I Love Lucy(’s) and A Carol Burnett Show. Through embodying these legendary comediennes, she didn’t just imitate them…she began uncovering her own comedic rhythm and style.

Her love of comedy has carried into new musical development work, including a workshop with James Lapine, Alan Menken, Nell Benjamin, and Sarah Kernochan on Nancy Drew and the Mystery at Spotlight Manor. In the rehearsal room, she developed a deeper understanding of how writers craft humor — and how best to serve a joke with clarity, truth, and precision. Using these techniques she later made her Off-Broadway debut in The Opening at The Players Theatre. She loves using her skills in improv and sketch comedy work all around the city.

Torianne has worked in NYU’s costume shop for the past four years, where she was named Head of Stock (a position never before given to a student). She has overseen numerous productions at the Iris Cantor Theatre and Frederick Loewe theatre Theatres. She loves bringing her leadership skills, advanced sewing skills, and a calm-under-pressure mindset to the theatre. She thrives on the fast-paced energy of backstage problem solving and loves the rush of fixing something on the fly. Working backstage has made her a collaborative artist and an even better actress.

Torianne believes everything happens for a reason. When looking back, everything provides a lesson to be learned (and usually a laugh too). She hopes your being here is part of that story.
